It’s friday night and there’s an operation (raid) planned. My first actual raid since I’ve left WoW and I’m pretty excited about it. I’ve checked my gear twice, checked my rotation, the strats and all the small details I can think of. I’m ready for this. Just a few small details though. I’m co-leading the beast and I also happen to be healing for this run since one of our healers can’t make it. For the record I haven’t raid-healed since Karazhan in BC.
I like to think I can handle in-game pressure pretty well but I have to admit that I was reaching my limits there.
I wanted to make a some sort of structured post out of this where I would impart some sort of cosmic wisdom but instead, here’s a retranscript of my notes as I took them during the raid. Hope you enjoy!
-Pre-raid 1: Oh my… so much running around. We look like a bunch of headless chickens! I love pre-raid chaos.
-Pre-raid 2:Ok… this has been going on long enough… we need to get this rolling!
-Pre-raid 3:What? Can’t be eight in the same conversation… weird. Oh well. We thought we could all pick the intro quest together.
-9h35: Oooohh, drop pods… nice! Apparently having another drop pod land on me doesn’t hurt as much as I thought it would.
-9h40: Turret boss: haaalllp! So much trash! Everyone is dieing! Run for you lives!!!!
-9h45: Second try… two people disconnect right when we pull and the turrets bugs… wonderful. I ask my co-healer if the rest of the trash is that bad. He tells me the first pull is actually the worst of the whole raid. I secretly suspect I suck at healing.
-9h50: We switch heals assignments, no one disconnects and the turrets go down surprisingly easy. I’m pretty convinced I suck at healing now.
-9h55: Omg! That droid is huge!!!!
-10h00: My co-leader makes a mistake calling the last missile barrage and causes a wipe… at least we know people are listening to us! Now we need to stop being noobs.
-10h05: Robot rolls over dead. Loot for everyone! I get a pair of shiny columni gloves. Good start!
-10h07: Ooohhh, pretty prison. Got to hand it to the ancient whatever it was that lived there, they knew how to build impressive looking prisons.
-10h09: Many trash! Handle it! Omg! Where do these thing all came from!
-10h40: Getting close to second boss. Break time
-11h00: Pulling Gharj first time, fight bugs out at the halway point with a false new platform. I just love these bugs!
-11h15: Oooops… enrage time! Everyone knows the fight now though so next try I’m hoping people will be able to focus on their rotation and less on simply learning the fight.
-11h30: Gharj goes down without even getting close to enrage. I was even able to dps a little!
-11h32: Group votes on going for an extra hour. Raid was planned at 2 hours but we’re having so much fun we go for 3. I love these guys.
-11h35: Job call ! Emergency about something not working, got to fix it asap! I’m putting myself on follow and hope that I’ll be able to handle the problem during the trash killing.
-11h50: Luckily, everything is handled just in time for the pillar boss.
-12h05: Pillar boss down. Took a few tries so everyone could get the handle of not dpsing the shields but overall it went rather well.
-12h15: Dark council doesn’t go down cause a dps couldn’t finish her mob in time. I feel bad for her because it’s hard not to blame yourself in that kind of situation.
-12h20: Dark council down and I get a pair of columni boots. Sweet!
-12h25: We do a quick attempt on Soa just to get people oriented and then call it a night.
So overall, great raid, fun times and I really missed raiding.
