Nothing’s official and this is me having fun trying to make a guess at a release date. Let’s look at a few clues we have so far.
-Game is still slotted for Q4 2011 and devs have said numerous times that the game is still on track for the scheduled launch.
-Regular Beta testing is mostly done. At this point, the main part of beta testing, wich is finding bugs and testing general gameplay is nearly complete if not complete. According to this interview, they have to the game in place wich means that the time between here and the launch will be polishing.
– Beta testing weekends. They are simulating the launch of the game. So we have a mostly complete game, wich they are testing as if they were actually releasing it. According to them, they will keep doing a pattern of simulate a launch the fix issues until they are ready to do the actual launch. This is really the last phase of the testing.
– The importance of Thanksgiving weekend (black friday). I can’t find the article but I remember reading in a few places that if you want to truly benificiate from a holiday launch you need to have your product out by black friday. This is because this is where most americans do the bulk of their holiday shopping. It would be reasonable to think that if EA wants to profit from the holiday effect, they would release before or during the Thanksgiving weekend.
Recap. The game is mostly done, and they’re testing launching. They are still on track for a 2011 release and it would be logical to try to cash in the Holidays. And just because the gaming industry seems to love Tuesday launches…
My guess is that The old Republic will launch on November 20th.
