Maybe it’s been around for a long while but I found out in this video on Gametrailers (2:50 min. mark) that Diablo 3 is going to allow the player to put items on auction for real world money.
Think about it for a moment. You can now play the game, earn virtual items and make a living out of it? Will people like our favorite Greedy Goblin be finally able to become real world millionaires thank to a video game?
The details are sketchy at the moment and we don’t know all the finer workings. Like for example can you still use in-game currency? Is there a conversion rate? Limits? Taxes? I mean, if Blizzard puts a 5% tax on hundreds if not thousands of transactions each day they stand to make a fortune…
Right now my mind is reeling with all the possibilities and how deeply this could impact the game industry if they go through with it. On one hand I’m telling myself that it won’t be that bad and that it could very well bomb on them as people decide that virtual items are not worth that much to them but on the other hand… could this be another game changer from Blizzard? Stay tuned my friends.. we’re in for interesting times.
