Yeah, I did like mostly everyone else on the planet and bought Dragon Age 2 yesterday. I was a bit hesitant to do so at first because while I liked the first one, that all there was to it. I simply liked it… I didn’t think it was the greatest achievement of humankind and I had a lot of gripes with the first game. But it was enjoyable enough to get me curious about the second one.
So did I like it? Considering that I played straight from the time I got home to the time I went to bed, that I did nothing else despite wanting to spend some time in WoW and that I ordered food because I couldn’t be bothered to cook… yeah I’d say I pretty much-loved it. Since I’ve only spent around 6 hours with it, I’m going to do a quick review now and do a more detailed one as I get through the game.
Lots of little differences here. First of all they obviously improved their technique with the game engine because on the whole the graphics are more sharp and the game uses more colors. While they might be minor upgrades, it does solve one of my gripes with the first game wich was “It’s brown!”. Seriously, DA1 was brown and fuzzy all over the place. While graphics are not supposed to be the main draw of a RPG I am a bit shallow when it comes to graphics and brown all over the place to simulate realism doesn’t cut it with me.
Decent I guess.. didn’t really notice it.
They are responsive! Alleluia! Seriously, controls were so sluggish in the first game it made things close to unplayable sometimes. Characters would not execute commands given, attacking an enemy took forever and the AI was awful at moving around. Bioware clearly did their homework this time and the game respond to your command instantly this time. Thank god!
I can’t say much for the story because I haven’t gotten very far into the game and have yet to hit the “main quest” but I like this one better already. If anything it feels less contrived than the whole warden storyline of the first game. Plus Kirkwall is ten time betters than the capital in the first game.
The monkey liked:
-Kirkwall! Love the creepy slave city
The monkey didn’t like:
-The whole EA account deal. I am tired of game companies making me create accounts all over the place.
The monkey wonders about:
-Flemmeth: Seriously, she is way more impressive this time around. If she can choose whichever form she appears in, why can’t she appear as 20-year-old. I demand fan service here!
