A few weeks ago Syp from Biobreak contacted me with a great idea. Simply, why not get a group of old hairy bloggers and get them to help out a few people who might be wondering about starting a blog? Well, not all the bloggers might be old and/or hairy but you get the idea.
So I’m here today to give you a kick to get into this weird blogging hobby and during the month I’ll have a few posts ups with tips, ideas and ramblings about what it means to be a blogger and how to go about it. But there’s one topic I want to tackle right ahead.
Why do it?
Why would you want to blog? After all you won’t get paid for it, it can be trouble sometimes to fend off the trolls or even you fellow bloggers and you have to actually write something.
You want to blog because despite the minors issue I’ve covered it’s a very rewarding experience. Through blogging I’ve met real friends, got to try a number of things I never thought I would have, I’ve improved my english (french is my first language), I’ve gotten beta invites, developers and community managers to talk to me directly and many other opportunities.
But the main reason and the one I feel is most important is having a voice. You probably have ideas and stories you want to share and no matter how ambitious or down to earth your ideas are, they are worth sharing. If you have spent every day for the past year trying to explain to everyone why Free to play is the spawn of the Devil then why not do it on blog where you ideas will be heard and where you might reach the people who are actually making the decisions. Take it from me, you would be surprised to know who reads blogs and how many ideas that spawned on blogs have made their way into games. It’s more than you know.
And even if you don’t want to change the world, just speaking about your own experiences is worth it. Some of my favorite blogs are simply people speaking about their adventures.
So, think about it for a moment and start blogging! The NBI has a forum set-up to help out new bloggers and I will be happy to help out anyone who wants some help.
